James Earl Davis Sr., "AKA Old Dog, Sparky and Pop", of Donalds, SC, died Monday afternoon, September 20, 2010, at the family home at age 58. James Earl was born at Abbeville Hospital on October 19, 1951, the son of the late John R. and Madge Lee McDowell Davis. He attended Dixie High School. James Earl served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. He was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College where he received a degree in Automotive Mechanics. James Earl married Martha "Mot" Campbell on June 3, 1972; they were married for 19 years. He is survived by one son James Earl Davis Jr. (Jim) and his wife, Stacey Marie of Morehead City, NC; one grandson, James "Chase" Davis. He has three surviving siblings John Davis, Carl Davis and Nancy Morris and one deceased brother, Henry Davis. James Earl was a cancer survivor and battled multiple sclerosis for over 20 years and was confined to a wheelchair for the last 10 years of his life. Friends from the auctions and flea markets called him "Sparky", after someone described him as the man in the electric chair. He loved listening to oldies on z93 and frequently called in to talk to the DJ, "Train". James Earl loved his community YMCA and thought highly of his friends and staff there. He enjoyed participating in his favorite outdoor activities - camping at Baker's Creek, coon hunting and grappling for catfish when he was able. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Harris Funeral Home. A Celebration of James Earls Life will follow the visitation at 11:30AM in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home for friends and family to gather and remember the life of James Earl Davis Sr. Memorial Contributions, in memory of Mr. Davis, may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Association, SC Chapter, 2700 Middleburg Dr., Suite 220, Office D., Columbia, SC 29204.
