James T. Mattison, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Caroleen T. Mattison, died Wednesday, December 07, 2011 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Mr. Mattison was born in Abbeville to the late Ithama Burch Mattison and Estelle Gambrell Mattison. He was reared at Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood. He served his country in WWII in the United States Army. Mr. Mattison retired from the Abbeville Milliken Plant as a truck driver after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed cattle farming and spending time with his wife Caroleen. Mr. Mattison was a member of the Abbeville Cattlemen's Association, the Woodmen of the World Organization and a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church for 42 years. He also attended and was a member of the Rocky River Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Mundy Mattison; five sisters and two brothers. Surviving Mr. Mattison is his wife of the home; a special nephew Ronnie Mattison and his wife Lucille of Anderson; additional nieces and nephews; and special close friends, the Milford and Glenn families. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM on Friday at First Baptist Church in Abbeville with the Rev. Wayne Wiggins and Rev. Stephen Payne officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Warner, James Allen Bobo, Rick Canfield, Bubba Canfield, Craig Milford, Andrew Milford and Mike Ledford. Honorary pallbearers will be First Baptist Church Deacons, Rocky River Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class, Jane Moore, Neuffer & Dot Fleming, Rick Whitt, Chuck Cody, Charles Crowther, Dr. Heidi Rodillo and William & Marlene Kennedy. The family is at their respective homes.
