James R. ‘Jim’ Scott, 71, of Abbeville, husband of Judy Fleming Scott, died peacefully Sunday, April 02, 2017 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. Mr. Scott was born in Aiken County to the late William R. and Alma Johnson Scott. Mr. Scott was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Mr. Scott retired as a corporal after 26 dedicated years with the S.C. Highway Patrol. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 6087, the American Legion Post 2, SC Troopers Association and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Christianna Scott; his best friend, Jimmy Davis and his dog, Bo. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 40 years of the home; a son, Jeff Scott and his wife Gina of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a sister, Marilyn Scott Wren of Powdersville, SC; two grandchildren, William Mitchell Scott and Savannah Scott of Mt. Pleasant, SC and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 5:00PM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 5:30PM on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial with Military honors will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are Don Reese, Ean Guy, Evan Guy, George Pullin, Darren Lewis and Dr. Trey Moore.
