James M. 'Jimmie' Singleton, 83, of Spartanburg, formerly of Abbeville, husband of Mary Ellen Jones Singleton, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late James H. and Lula Mae New Singleton. Mr. Singleton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from the Monsanto Plant with over 30 years of service. Mr. Singleton was an avid Clemson Tiger and Atlanta Braves fan and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald 'Donnie' Singleton and a sister, Betty Singleton Balchin. Mr. Singleton is survived by his wife of 54½ years of the home; a son, Travis Singleton of Spartanburg; a daughter Michelle Singleton Bowie (Jimmy) of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren, Justin Bowie, Morgan Bowie, Brittney Scruggs (Scott), and Linsey Horne (Keith); and two great-grandchildren, Skylar Scruggs and Greyson Scruggs. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 4:00PM, Monday, June 20, 2016, in Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin, following the visitation, at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Seth Buckley officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
