James Cleveland Tucker, 74, of Abbeville, husband of Doris Moss Tucker, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in the Antreville Community to the late James L. and Louise Getsinger Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a 1954 graduate of Dixie High School and a dedicated member of Rocky River Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard Army. In 1996, Mr. Tucker retired, after 35 years of service, from the Anderson-Independent. He was a member of the Abbeville County Cattleman's Association and a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Tucker enjoyed taking his grandchildren for rides on his tractor and working with his black angus cows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Tucker and a brother, Charlie Tucker. Surviving Mr. Tucker is his wife of 53 years of the home; two sons, James Michael Tucker and his wife Cynthia of Abbeville and Richard Lamar Tucker and his wife Anne of Lake City, FL; a brother, Frank Tucker and his wife Louise of Anderson; two sisters, Barbara Scharling and her husband Harry of Landrum, SC and Caroleen Mattison and her husband James of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Alisha Norton and her husband Bubba, Brandi Ethridge and her husband Joe, Brooke Brown and her husband Chase and Kayla Hammond and her husband Ricky; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Ethridge, Peyton Cleveland and Alec Norton. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Rocky River Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the residence.
