James F. “Jimmy” Vinson, 75, of Abbeville, died Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville to the late George Washington Vinson, Sr. and Lula Mae Smith Vinson. Mr. Vinson honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the CSX Railroad after many years of dedicated service. During the day, Mr. Vinson could be found “shooting the bull” with his many friends at the Hwy. 28 By-Pass Farm and Garden. He was an avid musician. On Thursday and Friday evening, he enjoyed playing with the band at the Lowndesville Community Center. Mr. Vinson was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Calhoun Falls. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah Laurel Vinson and Andrea Michelle Dean; three brothers, Pete, Floyd, and LeRoy Vinson; five sisters, Linnie Vinson Horne, Irene Vinson Fowler, Gennie Vinson Sparks, Mary Lee Bennett, and Frances Porterfield; and a grand-daughter, Courtlinn Jade Dean. Mr. Vinson is survived by his children, Adam Vinson (Joi) of Donalds and Yvette Merrifield (Joe) of Abbeville; grandchildren, Tommy Thomasson, Jr. (Taylor), Nikki Stanley (Tim), Chloi Vinson, Jayce Cobb, Molly Merrifield, and Amanda Stallard; great-grandchild, Brysen Singh; brothers, George Vinson (Brenda) of Pelzer and Larry Clark (Diane) of Callison and a sister, Ruby McNeill of Piedmont. A Celebration of Mr. Vinson’s Life will be 3:00PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Ford officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family is at the home in Abbeville.
