Janice Barsh Masich of McCormick, SC passed away on December 11, 2015. The child of Edward and Desda Barsh, Janice grew up in Bloomsburg, PA, and spent many years in Berwick, PA, with her husband of 49 years, Jack Masich, and her two children, Jill Brabec, now of Steamboat Springs, CO and John (Jack) Masich, now of Herndon, VA. Janice brought her honesty, humor and compassion to a 25-year career in counseling and alcohol and chemical dependency services, starting as a counselor at Clear Brook Lodge, moving to director of Clear Brook Manor adult facility and finally served as director of treatment for ACDS outpatient services at Geisinger Medical Center. She obtained her Masters Degree in Human Services from Lincoln University. Janice was known to bring home troubled teens and spent countless hours talking over a cup of coffee in her kitchen with new-found friends struggling with addiction. Janice was the epitome of a "people person" and wherever she went, she always left a wake of laughter and friendship. She leaves behind many true and kind friends in Berwick, PA and Savannah Lakes Village, SC. Among her many activities, including mahjong, bridge, water aerobics, golf and the sport of shopping, she was also a founding member of TITS, the Interstate Tiara Society. Not to be out-golfed by her husband, Janice won the 9-hole Savannah Lakes WGA club championship in 2006 and 2008. Janice was forever on the go and loved to plan the next "big" adventure -- many of which led to sunshine and the beach. A perfect day for Janice would undoubtedly involve friends, husband Jack, daughter Jill and son-in-law Dan, son Jack and daughter-in-law Sheri, and grandkids Peyton, Tyler, Alexa and Haley, mixed with a large dose of sun, sand and surf. And, that is how she will be remembered. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, McCormick, SC with the Rev. Father Robert Sayer presiding. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646 or Helping Hands of McCormick 122 N. Main St., McCormick, SC 29835.
