Janie Sue Bratcher Turnage

Janie Sue Bratcher Turnage, 83, of Abbeville, wife of the late Luther Allen Turnage, Sr., died Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home. She was born in Anderson County to the late Jackson T. and Addis Leroy Martin Bratcher.

Janie’s career graced many places of employment, but it was her role as a caregiver that brought her the greatest joy. She took great pride in caring for her loved ones, often finding fulfillment in the simple pleasure of being surrounded by those she held dear. In addition to her dedication to family, Janie embraced hobbies that brought her personal happiness. Reading and sewing were among her favorite pastimes. Her passion for these simple pleasures created memories that will be cherished forever.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her five children, Tony Vaughn, Phillip Vaughn, Douglas Vaughn, Michael Vaughn and Alice Vaughn Blackburn; and eight brothers and sisters.

Janie is survived by her son, Luther Allen Turnage, Jr. of the home; sister, Allene Phillips of Honea Path; brother, Paul Bratcher of Belton; and numerous grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:00PM, Friday, February 7, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 3:30PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
