Jesse L. "J.L." Nickles

Jesse L. "J.L." Nickles, 98, of Due West, died peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville County to the late David E. and Martha Calvert Nickles. Mr. Nickles retired from the Abbeville Milliken Plant. He enjoyed farming and was an avid gardener, fisherman and outdoorsman. Mr. Nickles was a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church where he was involved in the Men's Group. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank C. Nickles and Calvert Nickles; and two sisters, Martha Ashley and Drucilla Rampey. Mr. J.L. is survived by his sister, Evelyn Nickles of Due West; two nephews, Jerry Nickles and his wife Carolyn of Due West and Harry Nickles and his wife Elsie of Hodges; three nieces, Martha Thompson of Abbeville, Frances Smith of Simpsonville and Mary Shaw and her husband Alvin of Columbia; and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM on Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roy Beckman officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is the home on Lindsey Cemetery Road. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. J.L., may be sent to the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, 194 Hwy 20, Abbeville, SC 29620.
