Joan Campbell Dickson

Joan Campbell Dickson, 92, of Abbeville, wife of the late John A. ‘Sonny’ Dickson, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Abbeville Nursing Home.  She was born in Abbeville to the late Earl and Grace Simpson Campbell.

A 1948 graduate of Lowndesville High School, Mrs. Dickson was employed with the Antreville Shirt Plant for many years and was a member of Bells United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  Her memory will continue to live on through the countless lives she’s touched.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence C. Campbell and Harold S. Campbell; and a sister, Earlene Hodges.

Mrs. Dickson is survived by her daughter, Lena Smith (Tedd) of Abbeville; a brother, Kenneth Campbell; two sisters, Muriel C. Hanna and Linda C. Waits, all of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Cathy Dunlap Blackwell (Greg) and Dickson Dunlap (Allison); and six great-grandchildren, Maggie Blackwell, Meredith Blackwell, Brody Blackwell, Cate Dunlap, Neely Rose Dunlap and Charlotte Dunlap.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 12:30PM – 1:30PM in Bells United Methodist Church fellowship hall.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Scott Allen officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Dickson, be sent to Bells United Methodist Church, 2526 Flat Rock Road, Abbeville, SC.
