John A. ‘Buddy’ Braswell, 74, of Abbeville, husband of the late Sumie K. Braswell, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020 surrounded by family at his home. He was born in Savannah, GA to the late Stanley Wright Braswell and Ruth Grace Campbell Braswell.
Buddy served in the United States Navy for 25 years, traveling the seas and spending time in California, Hawaii, and Japan. He was deployed to Vietnam three times and retired as Master Chief Petty officer prior to moving back to SC. He then “retired” several more times from Abbeville Sports Wear, Flexible Technologies, Abbeville Correctional Facility and FujiFilm. Buddy enjoyed reminiscing of his time in the military; hanging out in his shop, collecting vehicles, and sharing stories with family and friends. He was a member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife and parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his brothers, Elton Braswell, James ‘Sam’ Braswell and Giles Campbell Braswell.
He is survived by his two daughters, Erin Wilson (Jason) of Greenville and Evonda Marner (Steven) of Abbeville; sisters, Elizabeth 'Anne' Carnley (Ray) of Huntsville, AL, Wenona B. Newton (Oliver), Wilma B. Uldrick and Karen B. Braswell, all of Abbeville and Brenda B. Mundy of Greenwood; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Braswell of Sumter and three grandchildren, Landon, Zachary and Emiko.
