John F Kay

John F. Kay, 57, of Abbeville, husband of Melva Norris Kay, died suddenly Friday, November 13, 2009 at his work in Ware Shoals, SC. He was born in Abbeville County to John C. and the late Dorothy Hall Kay. John was an avid reader, hunter, fisherman and recreational pilot. He enjoyed taking rides on his motorcycle and Sunday afternoon flights over Abbeville. John was currently employed with Smith and Waters Transportation in Ware Shoals and was a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. He was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by many. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a grandson, John Michael Evans. Surviving John is his wife of 26 years of the home; his father of Due West; two daughters, Shannon Stone of Due West and Heather Evans and her husband Mike of Abbeville; two sisters, Vivian Kay Moore and her husband Bob of Decatur, Ala., and Karen Kay Higgins and her husband John of Anderson, SC; three grand-daughters and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services, celebrating the life of John F. Kay, will be 2:00 PM Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Miller and the Rev. Randy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Kay family cemetery. The family is at the home. Memorial contributions, in memory of John, may be sent to the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, 194 Hwy 20, Abbeville, SC 29620 or to the New Hope Baptist Church, 4226 Hwy 184 W, Due West, SC 29639.
