Johnny Brinkley, 68, of McCormick, husband of Linda Barnett Brinkley, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Self Regional Medical Center. He was born in McCormick, SC to the late Jack Brinkley and Grace Johnson Hardy. Mr. Brinkley was reared in the home of the late John and Betty Strom from McCormick.
Mr. Brinkley was a 1968 graduate of McCormick High School. He was a member, former Deacon and Youth Sunday School Teacher at Buffalo Baptist Church. Mr. Brinkley served in the SC National Guard and retired with over 20 years of dedicated service. He was a former employee of Brunswick Pulp and Land Company, as well as the SC Correctional Institution in McCormick County, where he retired after 26 years. Mr. Brinkley was a Mason and member of the Mine Masonic Lodge 117 and volunteered with the McCormick EMS for 10 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Brinkley.
Mr. Brinkley is survived by his wife Linda of 49 years of the home; two sons, John Brinkley (Nichole) and Shane Brinkley (Marci) all of Charleston; a daughter, Julie Winn (Gus) of Edgefield, SC; a brother, Donnie Brinkley (Susan) of Central, SC; a sister, Patsy Unger of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and four grandchildren, Kellie, Jacob, Natalie and Bennett.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Brinkley will be 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Owens officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the SC National Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
