Joseph E. "Joe" Seawright Jr.

September 26, 1931 — January 13, 2015

Joseph E. 'Joe' Seawright, Jr., 83, of Abbeville, husband of Shirley B. Seawright, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born in Abbeville to the late J. Evans Seawright, Sr. and Mary Ella Williams Seawright. Mr. Seawright was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Abbeville High School and a graduate of Greenwood College of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Seawright retired as Postmaster of Scottdale, GA, after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #3 AFM, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the American Legion Post #2. Mr. Seawright served on the Abbeville City Council for 18 years and was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Berean Men's Sunday School Class. He was a former board member of the Long Cane Cemetery Association where he served as co-treasurer for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Belle S. Bradberry. Mr. Seawright is survived by his wife of 50 years of the home; four nieces, Sarah Jo Ann Bradberry of Greer, SC, Dr. Pam Wallner of Evergreen CO, Marisa Lauria of Miami, FL and Beth Wood of Camden, SC; two nephews, Dr. John Till of Neeses, SC and David Chinners of Orangeburg, SC. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Keith officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family extends very warm appreciation for the kindness, care and thoughtfulness given by the entire staff of the Ashley House in Greenwood.
