Kathryn Watkins Dulaney

July 18, 1943 — July 27, 2011

Kathryn Watkins DuLaney, 68, of McCormick, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Newberry County to the late Howard "Smokey" Watkins and Mary Baker Watkins. Mrs. DuLaney graduated from Limestone College in 1963 and received her Masters Degree from the Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA in 1985. She was a former member of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA and a devoted member of the McCormick Presbyterian Church in McCormick. Mrs. Dulaney was a true community leader having served on various boards including the McCormick Visitor's Council, the Town of McCormick Heritage Preservation Council, McCormick County Historical Commission, McCormick County Chamber of Commerce, Daughters of the American Revolution Organization, Toastmasters Club of McCormick, McCormick Mental Health Association, McCormick Literacy Board and served as former chairman of the McCormick County School Board. Mrs. DuLaney was the owner of Keepsake Friends store in McCormick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. "Dick" DuLaney. Surviving Mrs. DuLaney is her son, David B. DuLaney and his wife Meredith of Marietta, GA; a daughter, Leal Boyd of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, John Watkins of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Aldin DuLaney, Jesse Boyd and Allison Boyd; her faithful and loyal canine companions, Charlie and Ping; and many special friends. A Celebration of Mrs. DuLaney's Life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2:00PM at McCormick Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Eldredge Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
