Katie "Maddox" Wheeler

Katie Maddox Wheeler, 79, of Abbeville, wife of the late Jesse Thomas Wheeler, Sr., died Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Mars Hill, NC. She was born in East Point, GA to the lateTravis and Ethel Slaton Maddox.

Mrs. Wheeler retired from the Abbeville Shirt Plant after many years of service. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Benny Lee Wheeler and Jesse Thomas Wheeler, Jr.; three brothers, Eugene, Cecil and Franklin Maddox; and a sister, Mae Maddox.

Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her daughters, Tina Wheeler of Mars Hill, NC and Barbara Wheeler Hix (Kenneth) of Greenwood; a sister, Helen Long, of Forest Park, GA; two granddaughters, Christy Seawright and Jessica Brown (Jayson); and two great-grandsons, Alexander and Drake Cutter.

The family will receive friends 11:00AM – 12:00Noon on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 12:00Noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Long officiating.  Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at a later date.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Wheeler, may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Barbara Hix.
