Lorine S. McIlwain, 92, of Abbeville, wife of the late Charles W. McIlwain, Sr., died Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Greenwood to the late Willie and Mary Cole Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles 'Buddy' McIlwain, Jr. and a brother, Jack Smith. Mrs. McIlwain was dedicated to her family and to her home. She found peace and happiness in caring for each individual in a personal way. Mrs. McIlwain leaves an honorable legacy to all who were privileged to know her. She was a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church and was known throughout her community as a great cook and famous for her cheese biscuits and cakes. Mrs. McIlwain is survived by her two daughters, Charlene Haynes and her husband Calvin and Lynn M. McClain and her husband, Johnny both of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Jennifer Townsend (Cory), Chris Haynes (Anna), Chase McIlwain (Jessica), and Hannah McIlwain; and three great-grandchildren, Grayson Powell, Easton Townsend and Amelia Grace McIlwain; a very special family friend and caretaker, Robin Marshall of Due West. The family will receive friends 1:30PM – 2:30PM Sunday, August 30, 2015 in Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Wayne Wicker officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Calvin Haynes.
