Luther Everett Elwell, 91, husband of Barbara Livingston Elwell, of Abbeville died Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Beaufort Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Abbeville to the late Henry T. and Mabel Campbell Elwell.
Mr. Elwell, a graduate of Abbeville High School, honorably served his country with the United States Army having fought during the final months of the Korean War. He was employed with Milliken & Co. and retired after 50 years of dedicated service. Mr. Elwell enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found gardening. His fondness for building things and electronics were also evident. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Thomas, Bobby and Billy Elwell and sisters, Pearl Cheek, Maxine Chalmers, Vera Hall and Martha Ware.
Mr. Elwell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, of Abbeville; daughters, Jackie Elwell Errett (John) of N. Huntingdon, PA and Kathy Elwell of Easley; and two grandchildren, Nathan and Sara.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Monday, December 2, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
