Madge Lee McDowell Davis, 92, of Donalds passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Morris. Mrs. Davis was born on June 11, 1918 on the family farm in Saluda County, SC, the daughter of the late John Wilson and Madge Parkman McDowell. She was a lifelong member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith beginning at Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church in Saluda, SC. She was a faithful and active member of New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hodges, SC for the past 53 years where she served in many capacities including Youth Director, Middle Adult Sunday School teacher, and senior ministry outreach. Mrs. Davis received her associate degree from Emmanuel College, Franklin Springs, GA and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Piedmont College, Demorest, GA. She loved Emmanuel College and remained an active supporter of the college and its alumni programs. She started her teaching career in a one room school house at Red Hill in Edgefield County, SC in 1940 and was a second grade teacher at Antreville Elementary, Abbeville County schools, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Davis was devoted to her family. She is survived by her four children, John R. and his wife Phylis of Albuquerque, NM; Carl and his wife Jene of Hartwell, GA; James of Donalds; and Nancy and her husband Mike Morris of Donalds; five grandchildren, Kevin and Carla Fallin, Jim and Stacy Davis, Jena Grace Davis, Branson Stafford and Bentley and Courtney Stafford; six great-grandchildren, Chase Davis, Catherine, Gracie, Carson, and Nathaniel Fallin and Paydyn Stafford. She is also survived by five step-grandchildren, Christy, Mikey, Chris, and Eric Morris of Abbeville and Aaron Morris of Philadelphia, MS and eleven step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John R. Davis and her son, Henry Daniel Davis. The family is at the home of her daughter & Son-in-law Nancy & Mike Morris. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 11:30AM in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Branson Stafford, Bentley Stafford, Jim Davis, Chase Davis, Mikey Morris, Eric Morris, Aaron Morris and Rolando Urquizo. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.
