Manley Jennings Horton, Sr., 84, of Abbeville, husband of Betty Jo Rosser Horton, died Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his home. He was born in McCormick to the late William M. Horton, Sr. and Maggie Brewer Horton.
Mr. Horton, a 1953 graduate of Abbeville High School, was employed with Bloomsburg Mill, later known as the Jockey plant, retiring after 35 years. He was a faithful member of the Congregational Holiness Church. Known as a happy man, Mr. Horton enjoyed laughing and the laughter of those around him. He consistently took pleasure in watching the local and national news. Being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren made his days complete.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William M. ‘Bill’ Horton, Jr and Bobby Horton and two sisters, Kathleen Mabry and Mageleen “Maggie” Weaver Simpson.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo, of the home; a son, Manley Horton, Jr. of Abbeville; two daughters, Mary Horton Shaw (Ron) of Greenwood and Teresa Horton Woodhurst of Abbeville; a brother, David Horton (Judy) of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Amy Willoughby, Jason Shaw (Lelia), Becky Clinkscales (Jay) and Katie Jo Woodhurst; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie McCurry officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
