Margaret Nickles Bell, 97, of Donalds, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Abbeville County to the late Joe Wilhite Smith and Pauline Austin Smith. Mrs. Bell was a graduate of Due West High School and was a retired receptionist from Erskine College. She was a life long member of Greenville Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for 65 years, was a choir member, and a founding member of the Friendship Day Group. Mrs. Bell was twice married; first to the late Earl S. Nickles and then Dr. John W. Bell. She is survived by two sons, E. Smith Nickles and wife Margaret and Joe W. Nickles and wife Georgeann all of Donalds; four step-children, Dr. John W. Bell, Jr. and Mary Ann Bell both of Arden, NC, J. Philip Bell and Sally Bell Evans both of Greenwood; a brother, Rev. Robert E. Smith of Saluda; seven grandchildren, Jamie Nickles, Sherrie Dansby, Virginia Nickles Osborne, Monica Patterson, Carin N. Ragos, Christina Nickles and Brent Nickles; thirteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Greenville Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Jonathan Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at their respective homes.
