Marlene Banes (Hawthorne)

Marlene Hawthorne Banes, 69, of Greenwood, wife of Tommy Banes, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at her residence. She was born in Abbeville to the late Edgar Thomas and Jennie Ruth Harrison Hawthorne.

A 1970 graduate of Abbeville High School, Marlene was employed with Greenwood District 50 at Westview Middle School in the cafeteria. As a member of the Piedmont Wood Carvers Club, Charlotte Woodcarvers Club and Mountain Traditions Woodcarving Club in Virginia, she found gratification in her woodcarving skills. Marlene was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church in Donalds.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tommy, of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Gandee (Chris) of Summerville; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Dylan and Nathan; a brother, Arthur Hawthorne (Debbie) and a sister, Janice Young (Jimmy) all of Abbeville.

Graveside services will be held 5:00PM, Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Greenville Presbyterian Church cemetery with Rev. Donovan Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
