Martha J. ‘Marty’ Gunzenhauser, 73, of the Savannah Lakes Community, wife of Monte Gunzenhauser, died Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. She was born in Lithonia, GA to the late Fletcher and Lorena Aaron Anderson.
‘Marty’, as she was affectionately known, graduated from the University of West Georgia in 1973. She retired from the Georgia Public School system as a special education teacher with more than 30 years of dedicated service. Marty was a member of the Lutheran Church by the Lake.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Monte, of the home; her children, Michael Harrison (Clay) of San Diego, CA, Joseph Harrison (Shannon) of Orlando, FL, Rachael Werner of Atlanta, GA, Ashley McCullough (Chris) of Columbia, SC, Tyler Gunzenhauser of Nashville, TN and Logan Gunzenhauser (Emily) of Atlanta, GA; siblings, John Garner (Lana) of Kingsland, GA, Rene Yeoman (Marvin) of Land O’ Lakes, FL, Elizabeth Cathey and Lafaye Murphy (Terry), all of Cleveland, GA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A service to celebrate Marty’s life will be held 1:00PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Lutheran Church by the Lake. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will greet friends and relatives at a reception following the inurnment in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Marty, be sent the Lutheran Church by the Lake, 100 Twelve Oaks Dr., McCormick, SC or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
