Marvin Ansley Crouch, 79, of the Renaissance Retirement Community in Due West, died peacefully Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his daughter’s residence in Abbeville. He was born to the late Marvin Traywick Crouch, Jr. and Jennie Harby Crouch. Born and raised in Columbia, SC, Ansley graduated from Dreher High School in 1956 and in 1960 graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Ceramic Engineering. He worked as an engineer and later a salesman for General Electric, Mepco Electra and Tansitor. He later moved to the Atlanta area where he worked in interior design specializing in fine arts reproduction. His most loved occupation was as the Director of the Cherokee County Outdoor YMCA, in Canton, GA where he retired in 2012. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Cary Taylor Crouch and his second wife Nancy McDonald Crouch. He is survived by his two sons, Ansley Dean Crouch (Dee) of Kennesaw, GA and Thomas Roy Crouch of Greenville, SC; a daughter,Lynn Crouch Timmerman (Andy) of Abbeville, SC; a sister, Sylvia Crouch of Decatur, GA; five grandchildren, Taylor and Catherine Crouch, Taylor, Anders and CaryLynn Timmerman as well his beloved dog, Ruger. Ansley was known for his love of Clemson football, youth athletics and mentoring kids. He coached many seasons of youth football, baseball and softball. It was his house where the entire neighborhood hung out and he was always ready with encouragement to reach one’s full potential. His passion was for Clemson football as he attended many games over the years. Ansley knew all of the statistics and over the years many of the players and coaches. After retirement and moving to Due West, Ansley became involved with Erskine College athletics. He was especially attached to the Women’s Tennis team as he attended many home and away matches and was part of their “Adopt a Grandparent” program. A service to celebrate Ansley’s life will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Renaissance Assisted Living in Due West, SC.
