Mary Elisabeth Agan ‘June’ Prince, 81, wife of E. Rayford Prince and beloved member of the Abbeville community, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. She was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Clarence Dewitt Agan, Sr. and Mary Campbell Agan.
June, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Abbeville High School in 1961 and later earned her degree from Columbia College in 1965. She had a successful career as co-owner of Princess Uniforms and Accessories.
One of June’s proudest accomplishments was receiving the SC Order of the Silver Crescent, an honor that highlighted her exceptional contributions to society. She was inducted into the Abbeville County Hall of Fame, recognizing her outstanding achievements and impact on the local community. June also dedicated 21 years of her life volunteering with the Kairos Prison Ministry, touching the lives of many individuals with her kindness and compassion.
She led a remarkable life filled with dedication and service to her community serving on numerous boards - Hospice of the Piedmont, Upper Savannah Council on Aging, Cornerstone, Habitat for Humanity and United Christian Ministries of Abbeville County. June had an integral part in serving the community with a meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas provided by Haven of Rest. She was also a founding member of UCMAC in Abbeville and served as Director of the Emergency Assistance program.
In addition to her professional success and philanthropic endeavors, June had a passion for gardening and animals, especially horses. Her kind and compassionate nature shone through in all aspects of her life.
A member of Main Street Methodist and the Grace New Beginning Circle, June was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Entre Nous Book Club and the Kairos – Changing Ways Singers.
June is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rayford; brother, Clarence D. Agan, Jr. (Jeannie); two sisters, Jane Agan (Ed Evans) and Carolin Ann McLane (Riley) all of Abbeville; special caregivers, Doris McBride and Freddie Boyd; sister-in-law, Hazel Martin and her three sons, Ronny, Terry, and Ralph, Jr. Martin; two nephews, Jimmy Agan (Tricia) and Chad Miller (Deborah Goldberg); and many wonderful great nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends, Friday, April 12, 2024, from 1:00PM – 2:30PM at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in Main Street Methodist Church with Rev. Brandon Fulmer and Rev. Dr. Jimmy Agan officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
