Mary Hawthorne Cribbs, 94, a life-long resident of Due West, died April 19, 2012 at NHC of Anderson, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Andrew C. Hawthorne Sr. and Ora Belle Martin Hawthorne. Mrs. Cribbs graduated from the Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. After 28 years of serving the medical needs of employees of Riegel Textile Corporation, Ware Shoals, S.C., Mrs. Cribbs retired from Riegel in 1978, where she had many friends. Mrs. Cribbs was a long-time member of Due West ARP Church, serving in many capacities including circle member as well as a long-time member of the Ladies' Bible Class. She was a former member of the Due West Garden Club and Donalds Grange. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Julian S. Cribbs; her son, David W. Cribbs who died at age 26; two grandsons, Gary H. Cribbs who died at age 27 in 2002 and David Russell Cribbs, who died unexpectedly at age 39 in December, 2011; two sisters, Sara Jean Hawthorne Hardin and Martha M. Hawthorne; and a brother A. C. Hawthorne, Jr. Surviving Mrs. Cribbs are her daughters, Mary Lou Cribbs Bone (Dennis) of Anderson and Margaret Ann Cribbs Winn (Preston) of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Stephen M. Cribbs (Christie), of Greenwood, Patricia Liles Gibbs (Kelly) of Richmond, VA, Melissa Liles (Henk van Assen) of New York, N.Y., Autum Bone Cothran (Casey) of Belton, and Cliffton Bone of Pendleton; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Allene Aughtry of Whitmire, SC and a brother, Frank Hawthorne of Greenwood, SC. Funeral services will be 1:30PM, Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Due West ARP Church with the Rev. Calvin Draffin officiating. Burial will be private.
