Mary Dean Domas, age 80, of McCormick died Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina. She was born December 18, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Dean and Mary Wartchow. On June 26, 1976, in Rochester, Michigan, she married Lawrence Domas, and they have shared 47 years together.
Mary was always known for her genuine, angelic care for all those with whom she came into contact. She worked as a nurse and social worker in Macomb County, MI until she had children. Then she was known throughout the neighborhood for having the home where all the young children were well loved while their parents went to work. To this day, many of these children remember her drawer full of gumballs and her famous cookies. Her love of caring for the community came through with her opening the one and only Ice Cream Parlor in McCormick where her granddaughters have some of their most treasured memories being with their Gran. Mary was consistently found serving people, whether it be with Alpine Construction, at her church, or volunteering in the community. Most of all, she cherished times when she was surrounded by all her granddaughters.
Mary is survived by her husband, Lawrence; her sons, Dean (Sherry) of McCormick, SC and Peter (Lisa) of Plymouth, MI; four younger brothers, Charles (Joan) Wartchow, Donald Wartchow, James (Janice) Wartchow, and Robert (Rebecca) Wartchow; nine granddaughters: Lucille, Madelyn, Vivian, Lillian, Rosalie, Sophia, and Josephine Domas; Morgan Katsapis and Kennedy Domas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece, Amanda Cavanaugh (Wartchow).
