Mary Elizabeth Kerr Grier

August 2, 1918 — February 19, 2008

Mary Elizabeth Kerr Grier, 89, passed away at the Carlisle Nursing Center in Due West, SC on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. She was the daughter of Gilbreath Lawson and Eleanor Martin Kerr. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, Mary attended public schools in NC and SC and graduated from Borden High School in Salisbury, NC. Mary graduated from Erskine College and taught in Gastonia, Winston-Salem and Mooresville, NC. She was married to the Reverend Dr. William Pressly (Kit) Grier for 56 years. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Martin Kerr and sister, Rebecca McElroy Kerr. She is survived by her four children, Eleanor Logan and her husband Lee, Effie Jordan and her husband Herbert, and Fran Huffman all of Due West, SC and William Pressly (Bill) Grier, III and his wife Jonell, of Flat Rock, NC. Grandchildren include Ward Logan, Rebecca Gamble, Ruth Burdette, Tommy Huffman, William Pressly (Kit) Grier IV and Margaret Grier. Great grandchildren are Zachary and Lawson Gamble. Mrs. Grier was a member of Pinecrest ARP Church in Flat Rock, NC. Funeral services will be 2:00PM on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Due West ARP Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bonclarken Conference Center Foundation, 500 Pine Drive, Flat Rock, NC, 28731 or Erskine College, Class of 1939 Scholarship Fund, Office of Development, PO Box 608, Due West, SC 29639. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Logan, 132 N. Main St., Due West, SC.
