Mary Jo Agnew Hawthorne, 78, of Due West, wife of the late Charles H. Hawthorne, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. She was born in Honea Path, SC to the late Carroll Erskine Agnew, Sr. and Mary Rasor Agnew. Mrs. Hawthorne was a graduate of Winthrop University and retired from the Accounting Department of Riegel Textile Company after many years of service. She was a devoted member of the Greenville Presbyterian Church where she served as past president of the Women of the Church Group and was a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Hawthorne was also a past officer with the Woodman of the World. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Carroll Erskine Agnew, Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Reba Jester and her husband Maxie of Greenwood, and Nancy Marion and her husband Chuck of Antreville; a sister, Lucia Agnew Bryson and her husband Tom of Greenwood; two grandsons, Brian Jester and his wife Livi and Jamie Jester and his wife Alyson; and three great-grandsons, Jake, Jacob, and Caleb. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Greenville Presbyterian Church, 205 Greenville Church Rd., conducted by the Rev. Jonathan L.C. Bowling. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the residence of the late Charles H. and Mary Jo Hawthorne.
