Mary Margaret Milas (Hill)

Mary Margaret Hill Milas, 79, of Abbeville, died Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. She was born in Berwyn, IL to the late Thomas Jackson and Lyda Ferguson Hill, Sr.

Mary Margaret attended the University of South Carolina and the University of Maryland. She completed her graduate studies at Bowie State University. Employed with Social Services, Mary Margaret taught child development at Pensacola Junior College and worked with abused children and their families in La Plata, MD, Beaufort, SC and Pensacola, FL. She also licensed foster homes. Mary Margaret served on many boards including the Gulf Breeze Library, the Charles County Crisis Center and the Lavallet Association. She worshipped at Providence Presbyterian Church and participated in the Book Club of Abbeville Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, Mary Margaret was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Jackson Hill, Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Lonnie Matthew Temple of Pensacola, FL and T. Patrick (Piper) Milas, PhD of Rahway, NJ; two grandchildren, Lonnie Matthew Temple, II and Maeve Violet Milas; three cousins, Linda Patterson of Abbeville, Daryl Patterson (Diane) of Anderson and Jonathan Patterson; and special friends, Ingrid Haskell, Ellen Holt and Carol McKenzie.

A service to celebrate Mary Margaret’s life will be 11:00AM, Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Harris Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Sherry Martin officiating.
