Matthew "Matt" Brantly

Matthew M. 'Matt' Brantly, 58, of the Antreville Community, husband of Shannon Latham Brantly, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Anmed Health in Anderson. He was born in Lowndesville to Lois James Brantly and the late Robert Mitchell Brantly. Matt, a 1977 graduate of Dixie High School and 1979 graduate of Piedmont Technical College, was currently employed with Carolina Handling as a Field Service Technician in Greenwood. Formerly, he was associated with Ballentine Ford as a Service Manager and with Piedmont Tech as an instructor in the Automotive Services Department. Matt was a charter member of the Antreville Volunteer Fire Department (Station 3) where he was an engineer. He served on the Abbeville County Fire Commission, was the 2014 Commissioner of the Year, 2015 Firefighter of the Year for Antreville Fire Department and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 8131 in Greenwood. He was reared in Shiloh United Methodist Church and a member of Bells United Methodist Church. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Ashlyn. Matt is survived by his wife of 23 years of the home; a daughter, Lauren Todd (Timothy) of Abbeville; four sons, David Grant Kinard (Samantha) of Abbeville, Brandon Pruitt Brantly (Alie) of Lexington, William Blake Kinard of Abbeville and Dillon Morris Brantly of Iva; maternal grandmother, Willie Mae James of Lowndesville; a brother, Bert Brantly (Tabitha) of Abbeville; two sisters, Barbara Smith (Devon) of Abbeville and Susan Murphy (Greg) of Antreville; six grandchildren, Carrie, Adreanna, Jaelyn, Landon, Collins, and Haven. The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:30PM, Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 198 Hwy. 184 W, Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Kevin Lindley and Rev. Michael Hammett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full fireman's honors. Memorial contributions, in memory of Matt, may be sent to the Antreville Fire Department, c/o Buddy Pickens, 208 Keowee Road, Iva, SC 29655. The family is at the home.
