Maxie D. Ashley, 86, of Abbeville, husband of the late Ruth Napier Ferguson Ashley, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Calvin Wayne & Lois Branyon Ashley. After many years of dedicated service, Mr. Ashley retired from the Rocky River Plant. He was an active member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church and also a life member of Centre Masonic Lodge #37 AFM in Honea Path. Mr. Ashley was happy exploring locations of resale, bringing home items which he treasured. He enjoyed traveling to North Carolina and cherished time spent with his family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife of 45 years, he was preceded in death by a sister Waynelene Ashley Watson and a grandson, Glenn Ferguson. Mr. Ashley is survived by his children Ann Strickland (Tildon), Wayne Ashley (Jannie), Melvin Ashley (Nancy Fortner), Tommy Ferguson (Cheryl), Billy Ferguson (Miriam), and Jane Purdy (Harold); siblings, Joe Dean Ashley, Larry Ashley, Greer Ashley, Donna Ferguson (Andy), Allie Parks, and Ernestine Boland; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Little Mountain Presbyterian Church, 3836 Hwy. 28N, Abbeville, SC 29620. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Darrell Fetzer officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
