Michael George Kupinski

November 21, 1922 — August 25, 2012

Michael G. Kupinski, 89, of McCormick, SC, passed away at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Mike was born November 21, 1922 in Dayton, OH to the late Mike Kupinski and Rose Stary Kupinski. He graduated from Augusta High School in Ohio in 1941. After graduation, he was employed with Eljer in Salem, OH as an enameller. When WWII broke out, he joined the Army Air Corp, became a Sergeant in the 498th Bomb Group and 873rd Heavy Bomb Squadron and saw duty in the Island of Saipan & Iwo Jima. At the end of the War, he was honorably discharged and returned to the states where he started his own Plumbing & Heating Business and managed the local Hardware Store in Hanoverton, OH. In 1986, Mike & his wife, Twila, moved to Zephyrhills, Fl. to enjoy retirement life. In 2005, they moved to McCormick where he continued to live, laugh and play his banjo & drums whenever possible. He had the enjoyment of a recent trip to Washington, DC to visit the WWII Memorial. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 1818, Salem, OH., a Life Member of the Salem Federation of Musicians and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He played his banjo with the McCormick County Community Chorus for their Spring 2006 concert. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Twila, whom he married April 15, 1944. Four daughters, Sheryll (Mike) Joseph of The Villages, FL, Lynn (Dick) Farmer of Salem, OH, Pat (Ory) Banar of McCormick, SC, and Diana (Paul) Ravelli of Salem, OH, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1401 Greenwood Hwy, McCormick, SC. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM. A 'Tribute of Life'A? will be held later in Dungannon, OH with final resting place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Online condolences can be sent to www.harrisfuneral.com.
