Michael Alexander McMinn, 22, of Belton, SC, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023. He was born in Anderson, SC, on July 20, 2001, the son of Rev. Michael Allen McMinn, Jr. and Martha Carter McMinn. He was a cherished member of his community, known for his warm and caring nature.
Alex grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of love and kindness that he would carry with him throughout his life. He attended Calhoun Falls Charter School and graduated from Dixie High School in 2019. Alex furthered his education by pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Anderson University which he was set to receive in December.
He will be best remembered for the selfless and unconditional way that he loved everyone he came in contact with. He was a Physical Education teacher at Belton Preparatory Academy where he brought energy and enthusiasm to the classroom every day. Outside of his teaching career, Alex had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing. One of his greatest passions was cheering enthusiastically for the Georgia Bulldogs. Alex was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church in Belton, SC. May we honor his memory by cherishing our loved ones and spreading love and kindness just as he did. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
Alex is survived by his parents, Rev. Mike and Martha McMinn of Belton, SC; sister, Kinsley Vickery (Logan) of Honea Path, SC; devoted girlfriend, Savannah Waters, of Calhoun Falls, SC; maternal grandparents, Lenyward and Frances Carter of Honea Path, SC; paternal great-grandmother, Pat Norman; grandfather, Michael McMinn, Sr. and grandmother, Barbara Newman (Tony) all of Belton, SC; three aunts, Lynn Stanfield of Denver, CO, Cheryl Carter of Rock Hill, SC, and Stephanie Phillips of Williamston, SC; three uncles, David Carter of Abbeville, SC, Sam Carter of Honea Path, SC and Rob Aderhold of Boone, NC; and seven cousins, Mary Kate Stott (Maxwell), J.D. Carter, Lauryn Stanfield, Ron Carroll, Austin Kay, Dalton Kay and Ethan Phillips; and countless other close friends and family.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 3:00PM-5:00PM at Whitefield Baptist Church, 207 Mitchell Road, Belton, SC 29627. Funeral services to celebrate Alex’s life will be 2:00PM, Sunday, November 5, 2023, in the Henderson Auditorium on the campus of Anderson University. A private burial will follow in Keowee Baptist Church cemetery.
Alex’s legacy to this world was one of love and kindness to everyone. To honor his life in a meaningful way, the family has established the Alex McMinn Love One Another Legacy Fund at Anderson University.
