Michael ‘Mike’ Stephen Vaughn, 56, of Ware Shoals died Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at his home. He was born in Anderson to Janie Sue Bratcher Vaughn Turnage and the late Harold Vaughn.
Mike honorably served his country in the United States Navy for six years. He was self-employed as a painter in the construction industry. One of Mike’s favorite past times was fishing and he also enjoyed gardening. Mike shared the fruits of his labor with his family through his passion for cooking and grilling. Reading his Bible and taking notes during sermons while watching the 700 Club and Shepherd’s Chapel on TV were sources of inspiration for him. He was a member of the former Friendship Baptist Church in Abbeville.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harold Vaughn; step-father, Luther Turnage; three brothers, Tony, Phillip and Douglas Vaughn; and a sister, Alice Blackburn.
He is survived by his life partner, Sandra Mason, of the home; his mother, Janie, of Abbeville; a son, Brandon Parker (Christy), of Greenwood; a brother, Luther Turnage, Jr., of Abbeville; a step-son, Justin Smith (Esther) of Williamston; two step-daughters, Tracey Fowler (William) and Jessica Greenman (Daniel Johnston), all of Ware Shoals; ten grandchildren; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be 2:00PM, Monday, February 25, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel with the Rev. Dewayne Evans officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family is at the home of his mother in Abbeville.
