Mike James

Mike James, 66, of Iva, husband of the late Jan Burton James, died Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville to the late Alex Hoyt James and Corene Yeargin Smith. Mike was reared in the home of his two aunts, the late Annie Maude and Ida Lou James.

Mike was a retired electrician with Turn-Key Construction of Greenville, SC. In addition to his career as an electrician, he had a deep passion for sports. He was a proud supporter of the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. His enjoyment of the outdoors led him to enjoy fishing and camping. Watching NASCAR races was another favorite pastime. Mike’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Carson. He cherished their moments together and took great pride in watching him grow.

In addition to his wife, parents and aunts, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Charley Reese Beasley; two brothers, Joe Hoyt James and Alex Hoyt James, Jr.; and his father-in-law, Truman Burton.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Jennifer James Beasley (Mitchell) of Donalds; sister, Karen James Jordan (Robert) of Calhoun Falls; two sisters-in-law, Alvie Kernells (Freddie) and Kelly James; two brothers-in-law, Tim Burton (Mandy) and Keith Burton (Crystal); mother-in-law, Mary Sue Marchbanks; his beloved grandson, Carson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00AM, in the Donalds Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Keith Scott, Dr. Chris Ceraldi, Dr. Trey Moore and their entire staff for the care that was given to Mike.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mike, may be sent to the March of Dimes, 37 Villa Rd., B-123, Greenville, SC 29615 in memory of Charley Reese Beasley.
