Milton Williams

Milton Williams, 83, of Abbeville, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his home. He was the oldest son of the late Benjamin and Dora Pinson Williams, lived a life marked by deep commitment to his family, a passion for the outdoors, and a strong work ethic. Born into a family where sacrifice was second nature, Milton made countless sacrifices for the well-being of those he loved.

An avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, Milton embraced the simple joys of life. He proudly shared that he averaged shooting 100 rabbits per season, a testament to his skills and dedication. His favorite hunting companion was the late Lewis Napoleon. The two were inseparable in the woods, with Mr. Lewis driving and Milton doing most of the hunting—a partnership that reflected their shared love for the hunt. After Lewis passed, Mr. Wallace McClinton became his hunting partner.

Milton’s career was defined by hard work and loyalty. He dedicated 30 years of his life to Milliken & Company - Sharon Plant, working diligently in the textile industry. Following retirement, he found a new path in construction with C&S Construction. It was there that he formed close friendships with the owners, Jimmy Scott and the late Wayne Calloway. These friendships extended beyond work, leading to many fishing adventures across South Carolina, from the Upstate to the Lowcountry. Of all the places he fished, Milton’s favorite was the Santee Cooper River. The tranquility of the water, combined with the camaraderie of his friends, made these trips especially memorable. Milton Williams leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for the outdoors. A mason, he was a member of Masonic Lodge of St. Mary 161 and Glovers Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Oletha Paul and Betty Lee; brothers, Harold Williams and Gary Williams.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Milton is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Mrs. Frances McCier Williams; daughters, Dr. Carol Knowles of Kennesaw GA, Sharon (John) Dublin of Columbia SC, Mildred Kennedy of Hodges SC, Thomasina Jackson of Greenwood SC, and son, Thomas (Tanya) McCier, of Mauldin SC; sisters, Florine (Jack) Himes of Youngstown OH, Revered Brenda (Charles) Lomax, Odessa (Bobby) Scott all of Abbeville SC; brother-in-law Benny Paul; brothers, Marion Williams, Benjamin (Ruby) Williams, Keith (Stacy) Williams, George (Louise) Williams, Lonnie (Billie) Williams, and Dorn Williams, all of Abbeville, SC; nineteen grandchildren, most of whom were reared in the home; and twenty-eight great grandchildren.
