Myrtle Broadwell Martin Bishop, 100, of Due West, formerly of Calhoun Falls, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at The Renaissance. She was born in Lowndesville to the late Willie M. and Ethel Mann Broadwell. Mrs. Bishop was twice married, first to the late William T. ‘Bill’ Martin and second to the late Wilbur ‘Bill’ Bishop.
Mrs. Bishop lived most of her life in Calhoun Falls. A 1938 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, she attended Lander College for one year. Mrs. Bishop was employed as a secretary with the Abbeville County School District for ten years, including Calhoun Falls High School. Prior to her work in the school district, she and her late husband, Bill Martin, owned and operated Martin Oil Company in Calhoun Falls. Mrs. Bishop was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church and former member of Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Blair; four brothers, William, Clyde, Wayne and George Broadwell; a sister, Edith Broadwell and two sons-in-law, James Stone and Jimmy Kilgore.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her children, William T. ‘Billy’ Martin, Jr. (Lark) of Pendleton, Jane Martin Hall (Wayne) of Irmo and Diana Martin Stone of Lowndesville; a sister, Lena B. Hopkins of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren, Harris Hall (Kristi), Jeff Hall, Greg Kilgore, Mason Blair, Janet Blair, Mary Anna Bowman (William), Suzanne McCalla, Anita Powell (Rusty), Hayley Williams (Ben); nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Friday, March 18, 2022, at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Kim Strong officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
