Nancy Powell Crocker, 84, of Calhoun Falls, wife of William Carroll (Crick) Crocker, died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Calhoun Falls on March 11, 1935, daughter of the late Howard and Vivian Cann Powell.
Nancy was a visionary individual and lifelong member of the Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church planning special programs for her church for over 30 years. She enjoyed doing for others and was very close to the members of her Sunday School class known as ‘Faith Café’ teaching the college and career class.
Nancy loved life and lived it to the fullest and has left a lasting impression on those she met as Human Resource Manager at Mohawk Industries where she was employed for 50 years. She will be remembered for the kindness of her heart, the warmth of her personality and vivacious approach to life, love and family.
Nancy, very active in her community, was chosen as “Personality of the Year”, First President of the local Jaycee-etts, served on the first Board of Directors of the Medical Clinic, on the Library Board and Board of Visitors at Piedmont Technical College. She was the former editor of the Calhoun Falls News from 1968 until 1974, selected as Young Woman of the Year by the Jaycee-etts, and included in the Who’s Who Registry of Business Leaders in 1994.
Nancy was President of the Greenwood Toastmasters and for several years did public speaking for after dinner banquets and gave motivational speeches in schools and clubs. A winner of the Humorous Speech Contest in the District 54 Toastmasters, she represented South Carolina in the National contest in Alabama. Nancy also enjoyed directing weddings and brought imagery and life to everything she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Howie Crocker and brother, Jim Powell.
Married to William Crocker for 66 years, she is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter, Cyndi Crocker Bruce (Wilson) of Greenwood; a daughter-in-law, Faye Crocker of Calhoun Falls; five grandchildren, Chris Crocker (Crystal) of Due West, Justin Crocker (Casey) of Lexington, Trey Guy of Boiling Springs, Summer Fredette (Joe) of Anderson, Derek Stennette (Whitney) of Greenwood; four step-grandchildren, Will Bruce of Greenville, Winston Bruce (Liz) of Winston Salem, McLaurin Bruce of Charleston and Motsy Hover (Jon) of North Carolina. The wind beneath her wings were her great-grandchildren, Riley Guy, Ashton Crocker and Wade Crocker, Blake and Easton Crocker, Rivers and Madyn Fredette and Thomas and Banks Stennett; step-great-grandchildren, Asher, Lorlelai, Micah and Charlotte Hoover. Nancy is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Brock of Atlanta and Frankie Taylor (Buster) of Calhoun Falls. She remained very close to her nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Monday, November 18, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls Chapel. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in the Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
