On April 20th, Nancy Joan Byers Davis passed away peacefully in her sleep in McCormick, South Carolina, where she lived with her husband of fifty years, John. For much of her retirement, she had heroically met the challenges of Parkinson's Disease. Nancy was born on August 11, 1936, in Rochester, NY, the only child of Robert and Floy Byers. She attended public school in Rocky River, OH, and graduated in 1954 from Rocky River High School, where she met her husband. In 1958, she was awarded her bachelor's degree from Denison University, where she studied sociology and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Following several years of employment at Ohio Bell, Nancy married John on September 3, 1960. They resided for four decades in Bay Village, OH, where they raised their four children. Nancy was extraordinarily active in her children's school activities, and among her many volunteer activities she served as President of the Auxiliary Board of Fairview General Hospital. She also found time to work in a variety of part-time jobs as a pre-school daycare provider, a sales associate in gifts and crafts, and a tour guide in downtown Cleveland. Nancy enjoyed collecting antiques and cookbooks. She had a particular interest in early American furniture and decorative arts, and she was known for her excellent culinary talents, which she passed on to her children. She had a large and close group of friends in Ohio and in recent years had enjoyed the warm company of a new circle of neighbors in South Carolina. In addition to her husband, John, of McCormick, Nancy is survived by her four children and their spouses, John (Jason) of Williamsburg, MA, Michael (Kathryn) of Lakewood, OH, Sharon (Kevin) of Hudson, OH, and Thomas (Lisa) of Pineville, NC, and by her 10 loving grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Nicholas, Hailey, Caroline, Kyle, Aaron, Adam, Eileen, and Ella. A funeral mass for family and friends will take place in St. Raphael's Church, Bay Village, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 27, at 10:30 am.
