Nellie Ruth Capps Abbott Ware

Nellie Ruth Capps Abbott Ware, 87, of Greenwood, SC died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born at home in Kirksey, SC on November 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Bertie Pauline Arledge Capps and Norman Carradine Capps. Mrs. Ware was twice married, first to the late Raymond Isaiah Abbott and second to the late John Allen “Pa Jack” Ware. She was a member of Harris Baptist Church and retired from Timmerman and Nicholson Realty and Moore Business Forms. Mrs. Ware graduated from Greenwood High School and Columbia Commercial College. She enjoyed serving her community through various organizations – president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 20 years, former president of the Abbeville Garden Club, Hospice and Meals on Wheels volunteer. The outdoors, gardening, Indian artifacts, and history brought her much pleasure. Mrs. Ware will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her beloved siblings; William Capps, Milton Lee Capps, Lilly Louise Parkman, Helen Strom, Lucille Capps Outz, Lance Capps, and Arlie Paul Capps. Mrs. Ware is survived by her ten children, Wade R. Abbott (Nancy), Gail A. Nicholson, Steve Abbott, Dianne A. Weaver, Gerald W. Abbott (Timi), Sandra A. Lockaby (Derrell), Joan A.Timmerman (Richard), Mark T. Abbott (Jody), Wanda A. Tafta (Randy), and Sonya A. Calhoun (Julius); twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna Earl Capps Ellis (Jimmy). The family will receive friends 1:00PM to 2:30PM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main St., Abbeville. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Chuck Sprouse officiating and special remarks by nephew, Billy Capps.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Kevin Abbott, Chad Abbott, Rod Spence, Ashley Spence, Evan Weaver, Shane Abbott, Kyle Lockaby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Abbott, and Tony Abbott. The family is at the home of Nellie R. Ware, 102 Dupont Circle, Greenwood, SC 29649 (Harris Mill Village). Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Ware, may be sent to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
