Priscilla Garvin Irwin

Priscilla Garvin Irwin, 82, of Abbeville, wife of the late James T. ‘Jim’ Irwin, died September 8, 2024, at The Renaissance in Due West. She was born in Aiken County, SC to the late Quincy and Ethel Aldrich Garvin.

During her elementary years, Priscilla lived in Wagener, SC. She and her family relocated to Abbeville County in her teens where she attended Calhoun Falls High School. Skipping the 1st and 12th grades, Priscilla enrolled in Erskine College at the age of 16, graduating in 1962 with a BA in music. She taught private piano and voice lessons for over 50 years, eventually teaching the children of her previous students.  

Priscilla also served as Choir Director/Minister of Music in numerous churches and denominations – Presbyterian, Southern Baptist, Independent Baptist, Interdenominational and Methodist. She recalled two churches in particular where the Lord moved sweetly, and choirs were so loving – Friendship Baptist and Mathews United Methodist. Priscilla went where God sent her and was a true prayer warrior always praying for everyone’s needs and/or healing. She was a former member and President of the Abbeville Music Club.

In addition to her husband and parents, Priscilla was preceded in death by her brother, Merrill Quincy Garvin. 

She is survived by her daughter, Dayna Irwin Harris of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jamie (Kristin) Reynolds and their daughter, Mya of Dawsonville, GA and Anna Reynolds of Greenwood; sister, Jarrot (Fred) Alexander, and sister-in-law, Pia Garvin.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday September 11, 2024, between the hours of 1:00PM and 4:00PM at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Graveside services will 3:00PM Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Long Cane Cemetery with Rev. Doug Kauffmann and James ‘Jamie’ Reynolds officiating.
