Ray D Copelan

Ray D. Copelan, 77, of Abbeville, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at his residence, husband of Syble Fleming Copelan, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Abbeville to the late William Marion and Estelle Welborn Copelan.

Mr. Copelan was a graduate of Abbeville High School in 1965. He dedicated 40 years of his life to SCE&G (Dominion), retiring with pride from his position. A man of faith, he was an active member of Abbeville First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, participated in the security team, and was a valued member of the Sherry Wilson Sunday School Class. 

Aside from his professional accomplishments and church involvement, Mr. Copelan was known for his unwavering support for the Clemson Tigers. He cherished spending quality time with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie, James, Ronnie and Charles Copelan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Syble; their daughter Cheryln McMeekin (Dave) of Greer, SC; and two grandchildren, Christopher McMeekin (Shannon) and Lauren Chambers (Alex). 

The family will receive friends at Harris Funeral Home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. A funeral service will commence at 3:00 PM on the same day at Abbeville First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Chris Sullivan. Following the service, interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
