Raymond Newell

September 19, 1920 — February 28, 2008

Raymond "Ray" Newell, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Carolyn Gable Newell, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville to the late Andrew B. and Janie L. Milford Newell. Mr. Newell was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life long member of Grace United Methodist Church and had retired from the Abbeville Milliken Plant. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Huckaby, four brothers, Richard Newell, Westfield Newell, Adolphus Newell and Edward Newell. Surviving Mr. Newell is his wife of 61 years of the home; a son, James Raymond Newell and his wife Dianne of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Jack Newell and his wife Frieda, and Mortimer Newell; three sisters, Thelma Suber and her husband Max, Doris Richey, and Polly Smith all of Abbeville; two sister-in-laws, Beatrice Newell and Jane Newell; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jaroszeski, Brad Newell, Jennifer Nix, and Kim Huckaby; six great-grandchildren, Brad, Hayley, Justin, Matthew, Katelyn, and Tyler. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday, March 2 in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Taylor. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. The family is at the residence.
