Ret Major Sue Isabelle Hester Us Army

Maj. Sue Isabelle Hester, U.S. Army RET., 92, of Greenwood, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in McCormick, SC to the late John James Hester, Sr. and Matilda Annie Hanvey Hester. Major Hester graduated from the Spartanburg Nurses Training in 1940. She entered into the U.S. Army Nurse Corp in 1941 as a Lieutenant and retired from the U.S. Army as a Major in 1965. Major Hester was a avid homemaker and enjoyed canning vegetables and she was very loyal to her family and friends. She was very dedicated to the Army Nurse Corp and was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John James Hester, Jr. and Henry E. Hester and a niece, Susan Jeanne Hester. Surviving Ms. Hester are her three nieces; Sallie Hester Flavin and her husband Mark of Salem, SC; Shelley Hester Grund and her husband Scott of Greenwood, SC and Sandra Hester Reynolds of Atlanta, GA; four great nephews, Chase Alexander Grund of Dayton, OH, Tyler James Grund of Minneapolis, MN, Justin Phillip Reynolds of Atlanta, GA and David Henry Reynolds of Atlanta, GA; a great-grandniece, Kaitlin Elizabeth Grund of Dayton, OH and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Buffalo Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM on Sunday in the Church, 3699 Hwy 28 N. McCormick, SC, with the Rev. Ryan Eklund officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
