Rev. Oliver D. ‘Willie’ McCurry, Sr., 67, of Calhoun Falls, SC, husband of Mary Allison McCurry, died Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the Lexington Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Charles A. McCurry and Loretta Hartsell McCurry.
A graduate of Abbeville County Schools, Pastor McCurry was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Holiness and Congregational Holiness churches for 35 years. He began his ministerial career in Westminster, SC at Trinity Temple, then pastored in Clinton, SC at First Pentecostal Holiness Church and New Vision Tabernacle. Pastor McCurry was presently serving the Congregational Holiness Church in Abbeville, SC and member of Spirit Life Ministries – uscciphc.org. Faithful to his calling, he considered ministering to his church a blessing. His life exemplified the messages that he shared with his congregation. Pastor McCurry faced days with energy and enthusiasm, he enjoyed his chickens and shared his eggs as part of his ministry with friends and family. His family was important to him; he loved them dearly. Throughout the last few years, Pastor McCurry enjoyed caring for children, especially in his portrayal of Santa Claus. He was a chaplain with the Abbeville Police Department.
In addition to his parents, Pastor McCurry was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Hedden.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary, of the home; his children, Oliver ‘Dean’ McCurry, Jr. (fiancée’, Lyndsey Maniccia) of Augusta, GA, Jacob D. McCurry of Calhoun Falls, SC, Sherri Bowie (Rod) of Elberton, GA and Jennifer Gordon (Clyde) of Abbeville, SC; two sisters, Nancy ‘Ginny’ McCurry Vann of Abbeville, SC and Julia Vermillion (Robert) of Donalds, SC; five grandchildren, Cpl. Evan Bowie, US Army (Ali), Maggee Bowie, Ashlyn Gordon, Caleb Gordon and Lucas Gordon; a great-grandson, Colton; a very special nephew, Chuck Nash of Abbeville; his nap dog and constant companion, Buster.
Graveside services will be 11:00AM, Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Forest Hills Memorial Park, 1642 Washington Hwy., Elberton, GA 30635 with West Carolina District Superintendent Rev. James James, Bishop Ray Boggs, and Rev. Ben Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
