W. Richard Culbreth, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Frances Smith Culbreth, died peacefully on Sunday, November 09, 2014 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville to the late Richard S. and Ludie Williamson Culbreth. Mr. Culbreth was one of the founding and charter members of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member and Deacon Emeritus of New Hope Presbyterian Church and a member of the Caring and Sharing team at New Hope. Mr. Culbreth retired from the Harris Plant in Greenwood after 26 years and then retired from Hodge Frozen Food in Abbeville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah C. Jones; two sisters, Lou Ellen Jackson and Gertrude C. Irwin; and a brother, Bobby Ray Culbreth. Surviving Mr. Culbreth are his wife of 66 years of the home; two sons, Rick Culbreth and Frank Culbreth (Leesa) both of Abbeville; a sister, Gladys Ferguson of Abbeville; a granddaughter, Kerri Lew and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the New Hope Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 3:00PM in the church with the Rev. John Fastenau and Mr. Pat Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at the home.
