Richard L. DeTreville

Richard L. ‘Rick’ DeTreville, 81, of Greenwood, husband of Patricia Harris DeTreville, died Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born in Raleigh, NC to the late Marie DeTreville.

Rick graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia and attended the University of South Carolina. An insurance agent for many years, he was currently employed with the Index Journal. 

His fondness for sports was evident in many aspects of his life. While his sons were young, Rick coached the Dixie Youth Braves baseball team in Abbeville and served as a South Carolina high school football official. He was a dedicated supporter of the Gamecock Club and an enthusiastic fan of all Carolina sports, especially women’s basketball and football. An avid golfer, Rick made countless memories on the golf course, where he developed lasting friendships. He could often be found cheering on the Atlanta Braves, as well. 

A member of the Greenwood Shag Club, Rick will be remembered as Patricia’s lifelong dance partner. He was proud “Papa” to his fur baby, Maggie, and especially enjoyed supervising handing out Halloween candy with his special buddy, Megan.

In addition to his mother, Rick was preceded in death by a grandson, Rivers DeTreville.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; two sons, Lindsey DeTreville (Julianna Smith) and Bill Detreville (April), all of Greenwood; and five grandchildren, Riley, Rich (fiancée, Christina), Will, Mary Brannen, and Olivia. 

The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville.  A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Rick, be sent to Main St. Methodist Church of Abbeville, PO Box 656, Abbeville, SC 29620 or the Humane Society of Abbeville County, PO Box 256, Abbeville, SC 29620.
