Richard A. ‘Dick’ Torrey, 90, of the Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick, SC, husband of Karen Mack Torrey, died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was born in Bangor, Maine to the late Paul and Dorothy Cox Torrey.

A graduate of Morris High School in Bath, Maine, Mr. Torrey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following graduation. He proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1952 - 1955. Mr. Torrey and three of his veteran friends were shown the appreciation and honor they deserve by participating in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Following his service to our country, he pursued several management courses, setting the stage for a successful career that spanned over three decades. He joined Liberty Mutual Insurance in 1962 as a personal salesman. Mr. Torrey retired in 1996 as Vice President of Marketing for the Life group. He worshipped at the Lutheran Church by the Lake in McCormick.

Beyond his professional career, Mr. Torrey cherished the moments spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Whether it was skiing, tending his garden, traveling or fishing, his life was filled with new experiences and memories. However, his main passion was golfing and spending summers at his second home in Burnham, Maine on Lake Winnecook. He was a proud member of the New England Seniors and Central Main Seniors Golf Associations. As a reflection of his dedication to the sport of golf, he became a certified custom golf club maker. Following his retirement in 1996, he and his wife, Karen, moved to the Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, SC where he became a beloved member of the SOB club and established a Men’s Gourmet Club. As a part of numerous country clubs in South Carolina and New England, Mr. Torrey formed lasting friendships and connections that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy filled with love, adventure and inspiration, reminding us all to embrace the present, seek out joy in each day and cherish our connections with family and friends. His memory will forever be a guiding light in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
