Rita Shaw Knight, 74, of Donalds, wife of the late Benjamin Freddy Knight, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Anderson to the late Julian Shaw and Helen Parnell Shaw.
Mrs. Knight was a graduate of Crescent High School, attended Anderson College, and graduated from what is now Winthrop University. Her teaching profession began in Hart County, GA followed by a brief time at Dixie High School. The majority of her career was spent teaching third grade at Iva Elementary School; Mrs. Knight remained there until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed working at GNC in Greenwood and bowling with her league at Expo 300. Mrs. Knight was a member of Honea Path Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Roger Shaw, who died the same day, hours earlier.
Mrs. Knight is survived by her two sons, Jamie Knight, and Jeff Knight (Katie), all of Donalds; her sister-in-law, Linda Shaw, of Anderson; her niece, Julia Harbin, of Simpsonville; a special cat, “Goofy Rufus,” and a grand-dog, “Shelby Knight.” In addition, her first grandchild is on the way and due in September.
The family will receive friends 6:00PM – 8:00PM, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Honea Path Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Deborah Broadwell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Donalds.
